Born in Bangladesh, Mr. Muhammad Kabir has lived most of his life in New York City where he received his higher education. He earned a Master of Science in Education (MS. Ed.) from the College of Staten Island, City University of New York (CUNY). He has a teaching certificate (with permanent status) from New York State. Also, he holds a Master of Business Administration in Health Care (MBA) from Baruch College and Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, City University of New York (CUNY).
In his early career, Mr. Kabir worked as a senior system analyst at one of the world’s largest healthcare systems-New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (NYCHHC). He also served as the Associate Director of Planning and Program Development at Queens Hospital, and as the Associate Director of Ambulatory Care at Elmhurst Hospital – both part of NYCHHC. After serving almost a decade in the health care field, Mr. Kabir switched careers to become an educator; he joined New York City Teaching Fellows program in 2001.
Since then, Mr. Kabir has worked as a public school teacher in New York City as well as a principal, assistant principal, and dean of academics of several non-public (private) schools in New York, Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois. As an educational leader, he has provided instructional leadership, teaching mentoring, and professional staff development to teachers and staff. For students, he has introduced new initiatives to improve student performance. He has also guided students and parents through counseling and presentations for college admissions and career readiness.
Mr. Kabir led (chaired and co-chaired) two continuous school improvement and accreditation committees at College Preparatory School of America (CPSA), IL and at Toledo Islamic Academy (TIA), OH to obtain AdvancEd and CISNA accreditation. Alhamdulillah, both institutions received full accreditation. Furthermore, Mr. Kabir coordinated Advanced Placement (AP) program as well as College and Career Readiness (CCR) at both schools. He has extensive experience in the high school educational program.
At present, Mr Kabir lives in Glen Ellyn, IL with his wife and three children. He enjoys reading, reflecting, and contemplating. Insha’Allah, Mr. Kabir will join us this fall as the principal of Rockford IQRA School. He will lead our school to the way of excellence (ihsaan) with a beneficial approach of teaching and learning, God willing.
